Since the Snow perty much melted   (knock on wood)

I took down the rest of my lights

I purchaced mini lights at lowes for the same price I paid at walmart for 100 mini light sets

The lowes ones still had their color on them with just a few very small clear spots and they were out in the weather  for over 3 months.

the ones I bought at walmart fadded half the way through december.

I am going to buy from lowes from now on same price but better lights

Especially this last year, the Walmart colors don't seem to hold up like they used to.   And even the minis purchased left over in 2008 have had a much higher bulb failure rate than the ones I purchased left over in 2006, or in season in 2007.

Maybe they aren't using lead based paint on the bulbs any more.

I dont think lowes is using lead based paint either

I think Lowes uses A better product and also I believe lowes uses american made lights

Walmarts are made in China which could have something to do with the paint

I had the same experience with Walmart clear minis.  I got a bunch of 2008 leftovers and I've never in my life seen such a high bulb failure rate right out of the box.  I used them for arches and wound up cannibalizing an entire set of 100's (in addition to the spares in each box) just to replace the burnt out bulbs in the 28 sets I used for arches.
